Learning jiu-jitsu in Mexico City

Mexico City's jiu-jitsu is published in Spanish, and the first thing a visitor needs is the vocabulary — because the English words do not work here. Across thirty-two independent operator channels this research has read in this metro, 'drop in' prices exactly zero Mexican classes; the one own-domain instance of the phrase is in dollars, for that network's room in California. What the city actually says is this. 'Clase muestra' — also 'clase de muestra', and at one room 'clase gratis' — is the free first class, and it is the near-universal way in. The free first week is 'semana de prueba' or 'semana gratis' (and, in single rooms, 'semana muestra' or 'semana gratís'). 'Clase de visita' is the paid casual visit: $300 at one room, $350 at another. 'Clase ocasional' is $100. 'Costo Visitante' is $90 an hour — never a flat class price, because classes run one to two hours. One term is a trap: 'clase suelta' is not a walk-in. Every time it is priced in this city, from $599 to $999, it buys a private lesson. And the $250 that search results return is a stale pack rate; one operator's own FAQ still prints it while its cart charges $300. This guide covers Mexico City's sixteen alcaldías and the built-up Estado de México ring around them under one roof, because the fabric is continuous — Interlomas and Satélite are twenty minutes from Polanco, three ring rooms trace their belts to the same capital professor, and two of the city's chain rooms are on the far side of the line. The ring areas are named for the state and say so in their first sentence: those mats are in the Estado de México, not in Mexico City. Two more things worth knowing before you read an area page. A large share of visiting in this metro is free, invisible and conditional on where you already train — two unrelated networks here publish a reciprocal free-visit right that appears on no price page at all. And where a neighbourhood looks empty on these pages, that is a statement about the channels this research reads, never about the neighbourhood: Ecatepec was recorded at zero rostered rooms, the instrument improved, and rooms appeared. Each area gets the same treatment: verified facts per academy, no rankings, and the evidence behind every claim.

  • Centro: Cuauhtémoc, Roma & Del Valle 28 academies

    The central spine — Polanco and Anáhuac through Juárez, Condesa, Roma and Doctores down the Del Valle–Narvarte band — 28 rooms recorded, 11 with full entries, anchored by Renzo Gracie Academy / MD Del Valle ★, whose live cart carries the city's fullest visitor door: a free 'Semana de Prueba' at $0.00 beside 'Clases de Visita · 1 Clase $300.00'; The Klan sells a single class at $350 and Atlas Grappling an hourly 'Costo Visitante' at $90 — and 'clase suelta', priced $599–$999 here, is a private lesson, never a walk-in.

  • Sur: Coyoacán, Tlalpan & Xochimilco 10 academies

    The south — Campestre Churubusco and the Avenida Universidad corridor out to the Ajusco pedregal and Tulyehualco — 10 rooms recorded, 6 with full entries, anchored by Defiant Jiu-Jitsu ★ and the city's cheapest published door: 'Clase ocasional · $100 por clase · Sin contratos. Sin mensualidades', $650 a month for eight classes, and no inscription fee at all; Free Wolves in Copilco publishes the area's second full sheet, and one block on Avenida Universidad carries three of the six full entries.

  • Poniente: Álvaro Obregón & Santa Fe 4 academies

    The west — Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa and Santa Fe, plus the one Magdalena Contreras room — 4 rooms recorded and all 4 with full entries, the only area in the city where that is true; anchored by ŌKAMI Combat Sports ★, which publishes the west's fullest timetable, no price at all, and a free 'clase de muestra', and is one of only two rooms in the metro carried by an international association's own locator.

  • Norte: Gustavo A. Madero & Azcapotzalco 4 academies

    The north — Gustavo A. Madero and Azcapotzalco — 4 rooms recorded, 1 with a full entry, anchored by Academia Diosdado (ADAM) ★ and the only paid trial anywhere in this corpus: 'Clase de Prueba: por solo $100 MXN', refundable on enrolment. The thinness is our instruments and not the neighbourhoods — most rooms here publish on channels this research does not read.

  • Oriente: Iztapalapa & Venustiano Carranza 4 academies

    The east — Venustiano Carranza, Iztacalco and Iztapalapa — 4 rooms recorded, 1 with a full entry, anchored by Dojo KNS ★, a traditional house with a real weekly jiu-jitsu class and 'Agenda Clase Muestra' as the way in, whose timetable exists only as an image. The rest sit on registrations with streets and no channel we read; that gap is ours, not Iztapalapa's.

  • Estado de México: the Interlomas–Satélite belt 11 academies

    Across the state line, twenty minutes from Polanco — Huixquilucan, Naucalpan, Atizapán and Tlalnepantla — 11 rooms recorded, 8 with full entries, anchored by KUMA Martial Arts ★ and the ring's only complete price sheet and six-day timetable ($1,200–$2,400 a month, each '+ $800.00 Sign-up'; 'Pase Ilimitado' $3,000 with none). Two networks here sell a free intra-network visiting right no price page shows, and the capital's paid 'clase de visita' does not cross the line.

  • Estado de México: the Cuautitlán belt 3 academies

    The furthest belt, still in the state — Cuautitlán Izcalli, Cuautitlán and Coacalco, with Villa del Carbón at its outer edge some 60 km out — 3 rooms recorded and none yet with a full entry: one live site publishing a full BJJ timetable and no address on it, one registered corner, one municipality string. That is a statement about what this research can read, never about Cuautitlán — Ecatepec was recorded at zero until the instrument improved.

  • Estado de México: the Neza belt 5 academies

    East across the line — Nezahualcóyotl and Ecatepec de Morelos — 5 rooms recorded, 2 with full entries, anchored by CORAA Jiu Jitsu ★, the only room in the ring that publishes its own coordinates and whose free week is phrased as a question to the reader; Renzo Gracie NEZA carries the corpus's cheapest joining fee, 'inscripción $300'. All three Neza rooms name their lineage, and two name the same Mexico City black belt.
