Learning jiu-jitsu in Paris
Paris inverts the deal most cities offer, and it is too big for one guide anyway. Inside the Périphérique the first class is usually paid — 15–25€, almost always deducted from your sign-up if you stay — while the free trial lives in the suburbs, where clubs price residents and non-residents differently instead. The annual licence never gates a first class anywhere. We cover the metro area by area. Each area gets the same treatment: verified facts per academy, no rankings, and the evidence behind every claim.
What a first visit costs in Paris
Of the 30 academies this guide covers, 14 print a free first class with no condition, 2 a free one with a condition, 5 print a price for it, 6 say to book and find out, 0 publish enrolment or enquiry details without a trial offer, and 3 have no readable first-visit terms.
The printed first-visit prices run from €10 (≈ $11.6) to €25 (≈ $29), for example:
- District Training Zone: €10 (≈ $11.6) ('Votre cours d'essai — Tarif: 10€ — Réservation en ligne' — the trial class costs 10€ and books online, the only online-bookable trial in the 93)
- Casa De Lapel: €15 (≈ $17.4) ('Un cours d'essai est possible, les frais s'élève à 15€ qui sont déductible lors de l'inscription' — a 15€ trial class, deducted from your sign-up fee if you join. The lowest published trial price in central Paris)
- School of Champs Jiu-Jitsu: €25 (≈ $29) ('Cours d'essai — 25€' (trial class, 25€) — gear loan (gi, rashguard, shorts as the class requires) is included in the discovery offers. A 4-class/2-week discovery pass is 80€. Book online, via WhatsApp (the message comes pre-written), or sign up at the academy right before class)
11 academies print a standard adult monthly rate: the median is €78 (≈ $91), the lowest €40.9 (≈ $48), the highest €200 (≈ $232).
Conditions the pages state
- Grappling Gennevilliers (GGLL): One free trial session per discipline, no conditions attached, all through September ('1 séance d'essai offerte… sans condition tout le mois de septembre'); from October onward a trial must be requested through the club's form
- Group Fight Academy (Bajo BJJ): 'COURS D'ESSAI GRATUIT' — the trial class is free, but the certificate applies to the trial itself: 'Prévoir un certificat médical avec mention apte à la pratique du Jiu-Jitsu Brésilien' — bring a medical certificate stating you are fit to practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu

A schedule is what the page printed on the day it was read. The academy's card carries the visitor and price facts recorded for it; where admission to an open mat, or its cost, is not published, ask the academy.
