Learning jiu-jitsu in Brussels
Brussels is this guide's first city in Belgium and a registry city: the Region's own club roll, sport.brussels, prints a street address for every jiu-jitsu club it lists, and seven of those doors print the rest on their own sites. The registers sit side by side. Gracie Barra Anderlecht runs the paid one, «1 cours d'essais 15 € pour 1 cours privé d'introduction», with a full text week and «12 MOIS 690 €» beside «Assurance comprise (50€/an)». Da Vinci Fighting in Evere, Aorta Training Center in Schaerbeek and Phoenix in Ixelles print a free trial by booking, in their own words «Première séance d'essai gratuite», «Réservez un cours d'essai gratuit» and «Après un cours d'essai gratuit»; Kaizen BJJ at the VUB writes in English, «The trial class is free of charge and not binding». Triple P in Forest is the one walk-in door, «Cours d'essai gratuit, sans réservation». Nobody prints «drop-in»: the single-class word here is «Cours unique 12€» at Aorta and «1 Lesson +15 14 €» at BBJJA in Koekelberg, the one door that writes in Dutch first, and every membership carries an insurance line. The periphery outside the nineteen communes is not in this guide. For someone starting out, the real question is not «which gym is the best» but «which one fits me»; this guide exists to answer that.
What a first visit costs in Brussels
Of the 7 academies this guide covers, 5 print a free first class with no condition, 0 a free one with a condition, 1 print a price for it, 1 say to book and find out, 0 publish enrolment or enquiry details without a trial offer, and 0 have no readable first-visit terms.
The printed first-visit prices run from €15 (≈ $17.4) to €15 (≈ $17.4), for example:
- Gracie Barra Anderlecht: €15 (≈ $17.4) («1 cours d'essais 15 €»: a paid €15 private introduction (about one hour with a club instructor, «Cours d'intégration à l'équipe») before the group classes; visits by appointment; no free class printed)
Fewer than 5 academies have a published monthly rate included in the study, so this hub does not show a median.
Ask before you go
- Is the first class free for a visitor, or only for someone who intends to join?
- Is a gi lent for the first class, and what does one cost to buy?
- What does a month cost without a contract, and is there a joining fee?

Aorta Training Center (Schaerbeek)
Who this academy suits
The beginner who wants the fullest printed grid and sheet in the city: Aorta's season planning («du 07 septembre 2026 au dimanche 13 juin 2027») prints beginners' BJJ «20:00-21:30 : Jiu-Jitsu Brésilien ( Débutants et tous niveaux )» Monday and Wednesday, lunchtime rows «12:15-13:30» Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, «BJJ pour femmes» Tuesday and Thursday «18:30-20:00» and «Grappling» «20:00-21:30» the same nights; the trial is «Réservez un cours d'essai gratuit» with «L'inscription est obligatoire»; the sheet starts at «Cotisation membre/assurance 60€ /an» then «Normal 60€» a month or «550€» a year; the black-belt professeurs are named («Axel … professeur principal de Aorta», «Hélène Wenger»); «Rue de la Luzerne 40, 1030 Schaerbeek», «Tram 25/62 : 4 min»
Why we say it: https://www.aortatc.be/fr/horaires, /fr/classe-gratuite, /fr/tarifs, /fr/cours/jiu-jitsu-bresilien and /fr/contact server text, read 2026-09-03; every row, clause, figure and name quoted verbatim
The visitor for a week: this is the one door in Brussels that prints the single class — «Paiement par cours … Cours unique 12€» — and a ten-class card («Carte de 10 (cotisation/assurance incluse pour 10 cours) 95€», or «75€» with a valid annual membership, «valide 6 mois»); nobody in the city prints «drop-in», so «Cours unique» is the word for the desk, where «L'inscription se fait sur place.» with «Cash, Application bancaire, Virement bancaire, Carte»; the lunchtime rows are «Tous niveaux» and the adult classes «ont lieu toute l'année (même pendant les vacances scolaires)», which makes a short stay workable, and the /en edition («Book a free trial», «Prices») means the booking form reads in English
Why we say it: https://www.aortatc.be/fr/tarifs, /fr/horaires and /en server text, read 2026-09-03; the single-class and card lines quoted verbatim; the «drop-in» absence checked across the seven printing doors' own sites the same day

BBJJA — Brussels Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy (Koekelberg)
Who this academy suits
The Dutch-speaking beginner in the north-west of the Region, or anyone who wants a club that runs basics every day: BBJJA («Since 2000», «in onze eigen sportzaal in Koekelberg») prints a full lidgeld sheet — «Abonnement voor 12 Maanden … Adults +21 474 €», «1 Month +25 Jaar/ans 57 €», «3 Months 155 €», with a Paspartoe social rate «221€» — and a booked «proefles» («Ook voor een proefles vragen we om je in te schrijven», online via Martial Connect or «ter plaatse»); the 2026–2027 roster, an image on the site, puts adult BJJ every weekday evening (Maandag «20:00 - 21:30», Dinsdag «19:30 - 21:00», Woensdag «19:00 - 20:30», Donderdag «18:30 - 20:00», Vrijdag «20:00 - 21:30») with grappling Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; «Hovenierstraat 100, 1081 Brussel», metro Ribaucourt, reception «Tel: 02 494 11 01»
Why we say it: bbjja.be prijzen-hovenier, schrijf-je-in, locatie-hovenier and lessenrooster-hovenier-2 read 2026-09-03 in browser mode (the host 403s the ClaudeBot UA string; its robots.txt allows); the roster rows read from the rendered BBJJA-TRAININGROOSTER-2026-2027.jpeg the same day; sheet lines, clauses and address quoted verbatim
The visitor for a week, and the reader who needs the exact words: the single class prints on the Dutch sheet in English — «1 Lesson +15 14 €» — and the month as «1 Month +25 Jaar/ans 57 €» (or «52 €» under 25, by «domiciliëring»); the trial has no printed price and no «gratis» byte — the only «Gratis» on the sheet is for language lessons («Gratis voor moeders met abonnement») — and it must be registered in advance («Ook voor een proefles vragen we om je in te schrijven»); the membership is the insurance («lidgeld (= verzekering)», through «Jiu Jitsu & Grappling Vlaanderen»); the grid is a JPEG, not text, so check it on the page before travelling; reception is «ONTHAAL … Maandag 14:00 - 20:00 … Zaterdag 10:00 - 15:00» on «02 494 11 01»
Why we say it: bbjja.be prijzen-hovenier and schrijf-je-in (browser mode, 2026-09-03); the «gratis» absence checked across the sheet and the sign-up page; the reception hours from lessenrooster-hovenier-2 server text

Da Vinci Fighting (Evere)
Who this academy suits
The beginner in the north-east of the Region who wants the cleanest free door: Da Vinci prints «Première séance d'essai gratuite pour toutes les disciplines» over a text grid with adult BJJ «Lundi … BJJ 20h15 - 21h45», «Mercredi … BJJ 20h15 - 21h45», «Vendredi … BJJ 20h15 - 21h45» and a Sunday «Open Mat Grappling 12h30 - 14h00» tagged «Gratuit», then the month price «1 Mois € 49 engagement 1 mois» down to «12 Mois € 440»; the room is «Chaussée de Haecht 1133, 1140 Evere. À 2 minutes de la Station Bordet», and the BJJ page describes a first class that ends in light rolling after drills and says every class includes sparring
Why we say it: https://davinci-fighting.be/ (home: grid, tarifs, FAQ), /disciplines/bjj-adulte.html and /content/preparer-premier-cours-combat.html server text, read 2026-09-03; every row, clause and price quoted verbatim
The visitor for a week, and the reader who checks the small print: no single-class or drop-in line prints — the shortest product is «1 Mois € 49 engagement 1 mois»; the age floor prints twice and disagrees («18+ Âge minimum» on the BJJ page, «Les cours adultes sont ouverts dès 16 ans» in the FAQ); no insurance line prints, alone among the city's printing doors; and the trial request runs through «suppia.be/davincifighting», a booking app this research did not read — the phone «0471 69 16 94» is the other door
Why we say it: https://davinci-fighting.be/ home (tarifs block, FAQ), /disciplines/bjj-adulte.html and the guide page, read 2026-09-03; the missing lines (single class, insurance) stated as absences from the server text

Gracie Barra Anderlecht
Who this academy suits
The reader who wants the Gracie Barra structure in Brussels and will pay to start: the /horaires/ page prints the fullest GB grid in the city — white-belt «BJJ GB1*» rows at «18h00 – 19h00» Monday and Thursday, «19h30 – 20h30» Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and «14h00 – 15h00» Saturday, «NoGi*» at «20h30 – 21h30» Tuesday and «21h00 – 22h00» Thursday, «BJJ Femmes*» at «10h00 – 11h00» Sunday, with sparring gated «à partir de la 3ème barrette en ceinture blanche» — and the /prix/ page prints the first visit as «1 cours d'essais 15 € pour 1 cours privé d'introduction» («Approximativement 1 heure») ahead of «12 MOIS 690 € pour 12 mois» with «Assurance comprise (50€/an)»; «Visite sur rendez-vous» at «70, rue Lieutenant Liedel 1070 Anderlecht», «Quartier Veeweyde, proximité Parc Astrid»
Why we say it: https://www.graciebarra.be/horaires/, /prix/ and /contact/ server text, read 2026-09-03: the grid rows and their key, the paid-introduction block, the 12-month price and the address quoted verbatim
The visitor for a week, and the reader comparing registers: this is the city's paid door — nothing on graciebarra.be prints a free class, a monthly plan or a single group-class price; the printed ladder is «1 cours d'essais 15 €» (a private introduction, «Cours d'intégration à l'équipe»), then «12 MOIS 690 €» gi or «12 MOIS 495 €» No-Gi, each with «Assurance comprise (50€/an)», and «Cours privés - non membres 1 séance 60 €» is the only pay-per-session line; where Aorta prints «Cours unique 12€» and BBJJA «1 Lesson +15 14 €», a week's visitor has no printed product here, so the printed phones — «+32 472 99 64 67 (Accueil GB Anderlecht)», «+32 476 61 14 14 (Uniquement Whatsapp)» — are the door, and the programme itself is stated («Ceinture blanche 0 grades : 6 cours avec Kimono (Gi) + 3 cours sans Kimono (NoGi)»)
Why we say it: https://www.graciebarra.be/prix/, / (home) and /contact/ server text, read 2026-09-03; the absence of a free-class, monthly or single-class byte stated as an absence; the Aorta and BBJJA comparators are those doors' own printed bytes (aortatc.be/fr/tarifs; bbjja.be prijzen-hovenier), read the same day

Kaizen BJJ Brussels (VUB dojo)
Who this academy suits
The English-speaking beginner near the VUB campus: Kaizen is the city's English door — «a Flavio Behring academy» whose one-pager prints the mat («VUB's Dojo, building L, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, entrance 8, Boulevard du Triomphe, 1050 Ixelles»), the week («Monday (no gi) 8:00 – 10:00 PM» through «Friday 8:00 – 10:00 PM», «Saturday 6:30 – 8:30 PM», «Sunday (competitors) 12:00 – 2:00 PM»), the co-head instructors by name («Mauro and Robert are Kaizen's co-head instructors», black belts «in 2015 and 2017 respectively»), and the trial: «The trial class is free of charge and not binding.» — «only on Wednesdays and Saturday, from September to June», «only available by prior booking» at «KaizenBjjBxl@gmail.com» or «Mauro +32 473 45 05 74»
Why we say it: https://kaizen-bjj.be/ server text, read 2026-09-03: the classes block, the table, the team block and the contact block quoted verbatim
The visitor, and the reader who plans around the rules: the trial is booked-only — «participants who have not booked in advance will not be allowed on the tatami» — and runs on two days a week only; the year runs «from September to June» with a printed closure list («Sunday 2026-09-06» … «from Dec 24 to Jan 3» … «Sunday 2027-05-16») and «The schedule for the months of July and August will be communicated to the members»; no price prints anywhere on the site, only a bank account, so the cost is a question for the booking e-mail or the two printed phones; and the Region's registry files the club at «Boulevard des Invalides, 214, 1160 - Auderghem», a seat, not the mat — go to the VUB
Why we say it: https://kaizen-bjj.be/ server text (trial rules, closure list, contact block, the absence of any price) and https://www.sport.brussels/clubs/kaizen-bjj-brussel/ server text, both read 2026-09-03

Phoenix A.D.A Martial Arts (Ixelles, Toison d'Or)
Who this academy suits
The beginner who wants a small club on the Toison d'Or with a free first class: Phoenix prints «Après un cours d'essai gratuit, si vous souhaitez continuer, l'inscription est obligatoire» over three rows, «Lundi 20:00 - 21:30», «Mercredi 20:00 - 21:30», «Vendredi 20:00-21:30», coached by «SEBASTIEN» and «JOEL» (the founder — «créé il y a 15 ans par son fondateur, Joel Jiberot»), with «Forfait annuel … 400 € /an» and «Licence annulelle inscluse» as the printed price; «Av. de la Toison d'Or 39, 1050 Ixelles», «+32 498 14 39 85»
Why we say it: https://phoenixada.be/jiu-jitsu-bresilien/ and https://phoenixada.be/ read 2026-09-03 in browser mode (the host 403s the ClaudeBot UA string; its robots.txt allows); rows, clause, coaches, price and address quoted verbatim
The reader who wants the fine print: the price sheet is two lines — «Forfait annuel … 400 € /an» and «6 MOIS 250» (that line prints no euro sign) — with «les frais d'inscription sont payés en espèce» and no monthly or single-class product, so a visitor for a week has only the free class; the home page warns «Nos horaires peuvent parfois varier, contactez directement vos coachs pour chaque discipline», and registrations are «uniquement réalisées par les responsables de Phoenix Ada»; the club's own site answers 403 to this research's crawler string and was read in browser mode, and the registry files a different e-mail («phoenix-bjj-kids@outlook.be») from the site's «gestion.phoenixada@gmail.com»
Why we say it: https://phoenixada.be/jiu-jitsu-bresilien/ and the home page (browser mode, 2026-09-03), and https://www.sport.brussels/clubs/phoenix-a-d-a-martial-arts/ server text the same day; the missing products stated as absences

Triple P Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu / Grappling section (Forest)
Who this academy suits
The beginner in the south of the Region who wants to walk in tonight: Triple P prints the only walk-in clause in Brussels — «✅ Cours d'essai gratuit, sans réservation.», «Présentez-vous directement sur un créneau horaire : accueil et orientation sur place.» — over three evening rows, «Lundi : 20h00 – 22h00», «Mercredi : 20h00 – 22h00», «Vendredi : 20h00 – 22h00», a class «ouverts : aux adolescents, aux adultes, aux débutants, aux pratiquants confirmés», with the coach's own line «Marco Aurelio – 0471 95 01 04» at «Rue Caporal Trésignies 37, 1190 Forest (Bruxelles)»; bring «une tenue de sport confortable, une bouteille d'eau, une serviette»
Why we say it: https://triplepboxing.be/jiu-jitsu/, /premier-cours/ and /horaire/ server text, read 2026-09-03; the walk-in clauses, rows, coach line and address quoted verbatim; the «only walk-in door» claim checked against the six other printing doors' own trial pages the same day
The reader who checks the price before the door: the Jiu-Jitsu page prints «50 € / mois», «120 € / 3 mois», «400 € / an» and «25 € assurance annuelle obligatoire», while the club's own /horaire/ sheet prints «60 € / mois, 150 € / 3 mois, 500 € / an» for «Adolescents / Adultes / Only Girls» with «Assurance sportive obligatoire 25 € / an» — two printed figures on one site, both carried, neither resolved, so ask which applies; joining after the free class means «remplir le formulaire d'inscription», «régler l'abonnement et l'assurance annuelle» and «fournir un certificat médical» («via le QR code»), and no single-class price prints, so the week's visitor has the free class and then a month
Why we say it: https://triplepboxing.be/jiu-jitsu/ and /horaire/ server text, read 2026-09-03; both price sheets quoted verbatim; the joining steps from /premier-cours/ and /jiu-jitsu/; the single-class absence stated as an absence

How do I book a trial class?
It differs by academy. Where we could verify the booking method, it is listed under "Your first visit" in that academy's entry; otherwise, asking through the academy's official channel is the most reliable route.
I'm a complete beginner. Can I just show up?
It differs by academy. Entries show where a fundamentals program and first-visit process are verified. For the rest, check with the academy before visiting. For what a first class actually feels like, see the beginner posts on our blog.
