Learning jiu-jitsu in São Paulo

São Paulo is Brazil's biggest city, and it speaks three visitor languages at once: the free aula experimental (at Alliance rooms often a private lesson — just you and the professor), the transparent room that simply publishes its monthly price and carries no trial wording at all, and the priced drop-in, which lives only on Alliance's own /planos pages — Visita Diária R$ 100–115, member tiers of R$ 60–80 beneath it, weekly and fortnightly ladders above. The city is far too big for one guide, so we cover it area by area — and release it the same way: Centro, Zona Oeste and Zona Sul came first, Zona Norte and Zona Leste followed, then the ABC — and now the western metro, Guarulhos and the northern belt, the Alto Tietê and the southwest belt join, and the metro map is complete. Each area gets the same treatment: verified facts per academy, no rankings, and the evidence behind every claim.

The areas

  • Centro 18 academies

    The historic center, Santa Cecília through Liberdade to Aclimação — where Alliance's first class is free and individual, in the room's own words.

  • Zona Oeste 77 academies

    The west, Pinheiros and Vila Madalena to Butantã and Morumbi — free trial privates on one side, rooms that simply publish the whole monthly price on the other.

  • Zona Sul 105 academies

    The south, Vila Mariana and Moema down to Santo Amaro and Interlagos — where the priced drop-in lives: Alliance day rates from R$ 100, nine visitor rungs at Paraíso.

  • Zona Norte 59 academies

    The north across the Tietê, Santana to Jaçanã — the day rate crossed the river: Alliance Santana from R$ 60, a seven-day 'Aula Avulsa' at Freguesia do Ó, and the city's only trial week.

  • Zona Leste 67 academies

    The east, Mooca and Tatuapé out to Itaquera — the deepest free onboarding in the city: three free classes at Juventus, a counted 60-class beginners' fence at Vila Matilde, Mooca's R$ 90 day rate.

  • The ABC 86 academies

    The industrial belt, Santo André to Ribeirão Pires — gyms here publish membership sheets outright, the city's one non-Alliance day pass lives at 011 Lab (R$ 80), and one mat sits inside a Mercedes-Benz works club.

  • The western metro 82 academies

    The belt west of the city line, Osasco and Alphaville through Cotia — the metro's most self-published zone: five free classes at Team Gutty, a full R$ 140–220 price matrix at Pq Jandaia, Alliance Alphaville's visitor ladder to R$ 900 a month.

  • Guarulhos & the northern belt 35 academies

    Guarulhos and the Juquery belt out to Santa Isabel — no academy here publishes a price; the zone gives time instead: a free trial week at NS Brotherhood, a free individual first class at Alliance Guarulhos.

  • Alto Tietê 20 academies

    The metro's far east, Mogi das Cruzes to Salesópolis — one room prices everything (Alliance Mogi: Diária R$ 80, Visita Diária R$ 50, gi rental R$ 40); every other mat opens with a WhatsApp message.

  • The southwest belt 12 academies

    Taboão da Serra, Embu das Artes and Itapecerica, one city line over from Campo Limpo — small but real: GB Taboão's 200 m² mat anchors it, and Guigo Embu carries São Paulo's first own-page TotalPass declaration.
