Learning jiu-jitsu in Guayaquil

Guayaquil is Ecuador's real capital of jiu-jitsu — eighteen rooms sit on the accreditation roll across this metro, three times the capital's six. And the city's honest fact comes first: all eighteen speak only through Instagram and phone — not one readable website of their own anywhere in the metro — so the roll's printed record is the door. The picture that record draws is sharp. Unión Arte Suave in Samborondón (its own canton across the river) is the biggest room at 190 members — its printed operator, Juan Miguel Iturralde, is the name the search surface (a BJJ Heroes profile) records as a pioneer of Ecuadorian jiu-jitsu — and beside it stands Alliance Ecuador in Puerto Azul (156), run by the man who gave Iturralde his black belt: teacher and student holding the metro's two biggest rooms. Behind them: Sports Dynamics in Entre Ríos (146, seated in a church-complex local), the Predador umbrella (847 members on its own registration) resolving into its Garzota and Vía a la Costa branches, APEX inside the Bamboo Plaza mall, Team Elite inside gimnasio Nautilus, and MANTRABJJ seated by a plus code. Times, prices and trials are all questions for each room itself — the phones are printed below. The city's mayor's office sponsored its first jiu-jitsu tournament with around a thousand competitors by its own announcement, so the scene is large; it just doesn't publish. For someone just starting, the real question is not "which academy is best" but "which one fits me."
